Speakers will reflect on how CLTs can stay grounded in and accountable to the communities most impacted by housing inequities. \n\n\n\nDesigned for CLT practitioners\, residents\, organizers\, and partners across housing and policy\, this session will offer practical insights and real-world examples. The event will be conducted in English\, with live captions available in 60+ languages to support accessibility. \n\n\n\nThe global #CLTVirtualSummit2026 is a six-week series of free online events running May 5 – June 10\, 2026\, and anchored by World CLT Day on May 15. Organized by CLT and community land networks from around the world\, the summit brings together practitioners\, residents\, organizers\, and allies to reclaim and honor the Black and Indigenous leadership traditions that gave rise to the CLT model and continue to shape community land stewardship globally. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMikeya Griffin\, Rondo Community Land Trust\, Executive Director (US)\n\n\n\nMIKEYA GRIFFIN is a visionary leader and a proud child of St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood\, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the city’s historic Black community while driving innovative solutions to combat displacement and foster economic growth. As the Executive Director of Rondo Community Land Trust (RCLT)\, she champions affordable homeownership and commercial opportunities for low-to-moderate-income families\, residents\, and entrepreneurs\, ensuring that prosperity remains within the community. \n\n\n\nWith deep roots in Rondo—where her great aunt and uncle first settled after migrating from Mississippi—Mikeya understands firsthand the importance of community-driven development. Under her leadership\, RCLT has expanded significantly\, growing from a $300\,000 annual budget to $2.5 million and increasing staff from 1.5 employees to 9. The organization is on track to help 600 families achieve homeownership and support over 300 businesses\, proving that shared ownership models can be a powerful tool for economic mobility. \n\n\n\nMikeya is a passionate advocate for community-driven economic growth\, focusing on homeownership\, business development\, and long-term neighborhood stability. She is leading efforts to revitalize Rondo’s historic African American Arts & Cultural Corridor\, including initiatives like Golden Thyme\, a hub for local entrepreneurs. \n\n\n\nA dynamic spokesperson\, Mikeya brings a practical\, solutions-oriented perspective to discussions on housing\, economic opportunity\, and strategies to keep communities strong. She is available to speak on community wealth-building\, land trusts as a sustainable approach to housing affordability\, and the role of culture in economic revitalization. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAshley Allen\, Houston Community Land Trust\, Executive Director (US)\n\n\n\nDR ASHLEY ALLEN serves as Executive Director of the Houston Community Land Trust (HCLT)\, a county-wide affordable housing and community development non-profit organization in Houston\, Texas. HCLT has provided permanently affordable homeownership to over 200 limited-income Houston families since 2019. HCLT implements a traditional Community Land Trust (CLT) model which centers the leadership and voice of residents on how their communities are developed and preserved. In 2025 HCLT expanded its programming to include affordable rentals\, home rehabilitation and commercial space to support local businesses and community organizations. Her experience as a homeless youth is what ignited her passion to help increase housing accessibility and affordability for those that need it most. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDamon Mason\, Rondo Community Land Trust\, Associate Director (US)\n\n\n\nDAMON MASON was born and raised in Gary\, Indiana. At an early age\, he knew he wanted to be a part of a community that was progressive\, thriving and openly adapting to cultural differences. Entering the lending industry in 2004 as a mortgage loan officer\, he has also worked as a processor\, underwriter\, communications lead\, and in compliance. These disciplines inspired his belief that housing belongs to everyone. In 2023\, he joined Rondo CLT as the Senior Housing Program Manager\, bringing well over 20 years of experience. Throughout his 2+ years at Rondo CLT\, he has been a passionate\, highly effective advocate for housing justice and decreasing racial homeownership gap in the state. Due to his determination and support\, he was elevated to Associate Director in 2025 where he is now responsible for operational leadership\, team development\, strategic planning\, and oversight of Rondo CLT’s residential and commercial programming. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Organizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport this work\n\n\n\nThe CLT Center convenes practitioners\, researchers\, and communities from different regions to share experiences and strengthen the CLT movement globally. SUMMARY:OFS/BRS : Une réponse à la crise du logement ?
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the 2026 Global Community Land Trust (CLT) Virtual Summit\, a six-week series of online events from May 5 – June 10. \n\n\n\n\n\nENGLISH \n\n\n\nOn June 3\, Foncier Solidaire France will host a roundtable exploring how the OFS/BRS model—France’s adaptation of the community land trust approach—is being used to address the housing crisis. \n\n\n\nDeveloped in response to growing housing affordability challenges\, the OFS/BRS model separates land ownership from housing to enable access to affordable homeownership while limiting speculation. This session will examine how the model has scaled in recent years to deliver housing for low- and moderate-income households\, and how it is now evolving to address the renovation of existing housing stock. \n\n\n\nSpeakers will share experiences from across France\, highlighting how OFS/BRS is being used to respond to both social and environmental challenges—including improving housing conditions and supporting climate-related renovation efforts. The discussion will connect these local experiences to broader questions around housing policy\, affordability\, and sustainable development. \n\n\n\nDesigned for CLT practitioners\, policymakers\, researchers\, and sector partners\, this session will provide insights into how CLT-inspired models can be adapted within different legal and institutional contexts to deliver at scale. SUMMARY:Our Land\, Our Survival: Communities Mobilizing Against Land Grabbing and Dispossession
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFREE DOWNLOAD: INTRO TO OUR LAND\, OUR STRUGGLE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWebinar Description\n\n\n\nAcross the globe\, communities are confronting intensifying pressures\, from climate disasters and speculative development to militarization and extractive investment\, that threaten collective land\, self-determination\, and survival. In this context\, alternative land tenure systems are not only policy tools\, but acts of resistance. \n\n\n\nThe International Center for Community Land Trusts invites you to a conversation centered around Our Land\, Our Survival\, by Dr Line Algoed and published by Terra Nostra Press. Drawing on cases from Barbuda and Puerto Rico after the 2017 hurricanes\, the book shows how communal land systems become powerful tools to resist land grabbing\, community displacement\, and disaster capitalism. \n\n\n\nWe are especially honored to welcome Leilani Farha\, Global Director of The Shift and former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing\, who will open the session with remarks on land as resistance in the face of the global land rush. Her presentation will frame the broader discussion on housing\, land\, and human rights. \n\n\n\nModerated by Amber Khan (University of Washington\, US)\, the webinar will feature perspectives from: \n\n\n\n\nLine Algoed\, Vrije Universiteit Brussel\, Postdoctoral Researcher (Belgium)\n\n\n\nJackie Frank\, Barbuda Land Rights and Resources Committee (Barbuda)\n\n\n\nMariolga Juliá Pacheco\, Caño Martín Peña CLT\, Director of the Office of Participation Citizenship and Social Development; Community leader\, (Puerto Rico)\n\n\n\n\nTogether\, the speakers will explore how communities are implementing alternative land tenure systems to push back against dispossession and defend land as more than property. The webinar will be conducted with simultaneous interpretation in English and Spanish\, with multilingual subtitles added to the recording when it is published on YouTube. \n\n\n\nSupport this work\n\n\n\nThe CLT Center convenes practitioners\, researchers\, and communities from different regions to share experiences and strengthen the CLT movement globally. Her research examines how communal and collective land systems function as tools of protection and self-determination in contexts marked by disaster\, speculation\, and extractive development. \n\n\n\nDrawing on long-term engagement with communities in Puerto Rico and Barbuda\, Dr Algoed explores how alternative land tenure systems can serve not only as mechanisms of housing provision\, but as strategies of resistance against land grabbing\, disaster capitalism\, and colonial or imperial pressures. She works at the intersection of urban studies\, political ecology\, and human rights\, with a particular interest in how land can be defended as a shared and living resource. \n\n\n\nShe is the author of Our Land\, Our Survival\, recently published by Terra Nostra Press\, which documents community struggles to protect collective land in the wake of the 2017 hurricanes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeilani Farha\, The Shift and former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing\, Global Director (Canada) \n\n\n\nLEILANI FARHA is the Global Director of The Shift\, an international movement to secure the right to housing\, and served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing from 2014 to 2020. A lawyer and global advocate\, her work focuses on housing as a human right and on confronting the financialization of housing and land. During her UN mandate\, Leilani investigated housing conditions across the world\, examining how global capital\, speculation\, and extractive economic systems impact communities’ ability to remain in their homes. She has been a leading voice in reframing housing and land as social goods rather than commodities\, calling for systemic reforms that center human rights\, dignity\, and community control. \n\n\n\nLeilani is also the Executive Producer of the documentary Push\, which highlights the global housing crisis and grassroots resistance movements. Through The Shift\, she works with governments\, cities\, civil society organizations\, and community leaders to advance rights-based housing policy and protect communities from displacement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJackie Frank\, Barbuda Land Rights and Resources Committee (Barbuda) \n\n\n\nJACKIE FRANK is a community leader and advocate from Barbuda dedicated to defending the island’s communal land system and advancing local self-determination. Following the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017\, she became actively involved in efforts to protect Barbuda’s centuries-old system of collective land ownership from privatization and external development pressures. \n\n\n\nAs Barbuda has faced growing threats of land grabbing and large-scale speculative projects\, Jackie has worked alongside community members to raise awareness of the importance of communal tenure as a foundation for cultural survival\, economic resilience\, and environmental stewardship. Her advocacy emphasizes land not as a commodity\, but as a shared inheritance that sustains identity\, livelihood\, and collective rights. Through grassroots organizing and public engagement\, she continues to support community-led resistance to displacement and to promote models of land governance rooted in accountability\, participation\, and long-term stewardship. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmber Khan\, University of Washington\, Postdoctoral Scholar (US) \n\n\n\nAMBER KHAN\, PhD\, MPH is an applied interdisciplinary disaster scholar focused on community-led solutions to the climate crisis\, centering on community-led land use and policy\, affordable housing\, and preventing displacement and gentrification. In her current role as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Washington\, she leads an international study with the International Center for CLTs on the application of CLTs in building climate and disaster resilience. In her role as a participatory action research fellow at the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)\, she designs and conducts research on climate displacement\, migration\, and resettlement with Indigenous-led organizations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMariolga Juliá Pacheco\, Caño Martín Peña CLT\, Director of the Office of Participation Citizenship and Social Development; Community leader\, (Puerto Rico) \n\n\n\nMARIOLGA JULIÁ PACHECO is a community leader with the Caño Martín Peña CLT in San Juan\, Puerto Rico. She has been deeply involved in the community’s decades-long struggle to secure collective land tenure as a foundation for environmental restoration\, housing stability\, and self-determination. \n\n\n\nEmerging from a grassroots movement led by residents of the Caño Martín Peña district\, the CLT was established to prevent displacement and protect affordability while advancing large-scale ecological rehabilitation of the Martín Peña channel. Mariolga has played an important role in community organizing\, resident leadership development\, and advocacy to defend the CLT model as a tool for both climate resilience and social justice. \n\n\n\nHer work highlights how collective land ownership can serve as a powerful mechanism to resist land speculation\, strengthen community governance\, and ensure that long-term redevelopment benefits existing residents rather than displacing them. Through her leadership\, she continues to advance land as a shared resource rooted in dignity\, participation\, and collective survival.
